Tricord Homes is building HOPE for thousands of people in other parts of the world and in its own backyard.
A “House for Hope” groundbreaking luncheon was held on May 1, 2006 to salute the Tricord employees and subcontractors who will be donating or discounting materials and labor to build the House for Hope in Orange County, VA. Also, in attendance were the current owners of the selected home, and representatives from the charities who will receive the proceeds from the sale of the home.
Fifty percent of the proceeds will go to Hope International. This organization helps people in Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa by providing small business loans. The organization, founded in 1997 by Pennsylvania homebuilder Jeff Rutt, solicits help from homebuilders throughout the nation. The belief is that by offering people small business loans, the recipients not only create jobs for themselves, but also for others. Those jobs, in turn, contribute to the overall economy of a community and thus, aid thousands more.
The remaining fifty percent of the proceeds will be divided between Bethany Christian Services, Fredericksburg Christian Health Center, and Rappahannock Council on Domestic Violence.
Bethany Christian Services fills the needs of children all around the world who are looking for families and provides services to preserve life. Constance Barry is the Branch Director; she oversees all of the Virginia offices, which include Fredericksburg, Charlottesville, Fairfax, and Richmond. Constance Barry said, “Bethany Pregnancy Services in Fredericksburg will certainly be blessed by these funds and will be able to serve the increasing number of women who are coming to our clinic with unplanned pregnancies.”
Dr. Timothy Powell founded Fredericksburg Christian Health Center in January 2003 because he had a heart to serve the uninsured in the Fredericksburg area that could not afford quality health care. Dr. Powell believes healing comes from all areas, his vision is to “minister to the whole person; body, mind and spirit.” The clinic is located in Heatherstone Business Park and services at least 1,500 patients per year who would otherwise go without; however their goal is to increase that number to at least 2,500 patients.
The Rappahannock Council on Domestic Violence breaks the cycle of violence through shelter, advocacy, education, awareness, prevention, and intervention. RCDV is the only provider of domestic violence victim services for people in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George. Kathy Anderson, Executive Director responsible for the overall administration and management of this nonprofit agency was thrilled to be selected as a recipient of funds. Kathy stated that “Our immediate goal is to expand our ability to provide shelter services; in previous years we have had to turn away victims and their families because we did not have the shelter space to serve them.”
James Curtiss, President of Tricord Homes, said, “Once Tricord saw what one house could do for so many there was no question that we would participate in the House for HOPE project. Tricord’s stance has always been one of good stewardship; we are part of the community and feel blessed to be able to utilize our combined talents to help those in need. Tricord and our wonderful employees and subcontractors are proud and blessed to have the opportunity to participate with these fine charitable organizations in building a House for HOPE.” The purchasers of the home are excited that their home is going to positively impact so many lives
